Det vetenskapliga namnet "Tristachyideae" fick denna tribus av Jorge Gabriel Sánchez-Ken & Lynn G. Clark i publikationen American Journal of Botany Vol.97 när den gavs ut 2010. Typsläkte för denna tribus är Tristachya.
