Det vetenskapliga namnet "Guaduelleae" fick denna tribus av Thomas Robert Soderstrom & Roger Pearson Ellis i publikationen Grass systematics and evolution när den gavs ut 1988. Typsläkte för denna tribus är Guaduella.
