Chasmanthium är ett släkte i familjen gräs och består av cirka 5 arter. Släktet har sitt naturliga utbredningsområde i västra Kanada, norra centrala USA, nordöstra USA, sydvästra USA, södra centrala USA, sydöstra USA och Mexiko.

Chasmanthium innehåller arter som är tuvbildande, utvecklar korta rhizomer, är fleråriga örter som har lansettformade blad. Bladen utvecklas både vid basen och utmed strået och blir från 10 till 20 millimeter breda samt 7 till 20 centimeter långa. Plantan utvecklar ett ledat strå som blir från 50 till 150 centimeter långt. Strået är ihåligt och i änden av strået utvecklas en blomställning. Blommorna sitter i småax som i sin tur har en blomställning likt en öppen eller spretig vippa.

Systematik

Det vetenskapliga namnet Chasmanthium fick släktet av Heinrich Friedrich Link i publikationen Hortus Regius Botanicus Berolinensis Vol. 1 när den gavs ut 1827. Typart för släktet är Chasmanthium laxum.
