Det vetenskapliga namnet "Ventenatinae" fick denna undertribus av BLynn J. Gillespie, Evren Cabi & Robert John Soreng i publikationen Journal of Systematics and Evolution Vol.55 när den gavs ut 2017. Typsläkte är Ventenata.
