Arter i denna underfamilj har sitt sammanlagda utbredningsområde i västra tropiska Afrika, västcentrala tropiska Afrika, nordöstra tropiska Afrika, östra tropiska Afrika, södra tropiska Afrika, västra Indiska oceanen, östra Asien, indiska subkontinenten, Indokina, Malesien, Papuasien, Australien, sydvästra Stilla havet, sydöstra USA, Mexiko, Centralamerika, Västindien, norra Sydamerika, västra Sydamerika, Brasilien och södra Sydamerika.

Systematik

Det vetenskapliga namnet "Pharoideae" fick denna underfamilj av Lynn G. Clark & Emmet J. Judziewicz i publikationen Taxon 45 som gavs ut 1996. Typsläkte för underfamiljen är Pharus.
