Korsörtssläktet omfattar ungefär 1 450 arter i familjen asterväxter. Växterna i släktet är ett- till fleråriga örter, halvbuskar eller buskar. Blomkorgarna sitter ensamma eller några få tillsammans. Blomfärgen är vanligen gul, men även rosa, lila, blå eller vita blommor förekommer. Släktet finns utbrett i nästan hela världen utom Antarktis.
