Scutachne är ett monotypiskt släkte i familjen gräs och består av endast en art. Släktet har sitt naturliga utbredningsområde i Västindien.

Scutachne innehåller arter som är tuvbildande, fleråriga örter som har linjära blad. Bladen är basala och blir från 4 till 10 millimeter breda. Plantan utvecklar ett ledat strå som blir från 40 till 70 centimeter långt. Strået är ihåligt och i änden av strået utvecklas en blomställning. Blommorna sitter i småax som i sin tur har en blomställning likt en vippa.

Systematik

Det vetenskapliga namnet Scutachne fick släktet av Albert Spear Hitchcock & Mary Agnes Chase i publikationen Proceedings of the Biological Society of Washington Vol.24 när den gavs ut 1911. Typart för släktet är Scutachne dura.
