Det vetenskapliga namnet "Eriachneae" fick denna tribus av M.H.J.van Eck-Borsboom i publikationen Blumea: Biodiversity, Evolution and Biogeography of Plants Vol.26 när den gavs ut 1980. Typsläkte för denna tribus är Eriachne.
